STOURBRIDGE BRANCH - AUGUST 2016
MALCOLM'S REPORT
At this time of year I would not expect to have a very good attendance because after all it is the Holiday Time (the start of a Pleasure Cruise), like Roy and Myself on Friday 26th August with the Gentle Line Dancing Class (which Roy and Myself attend at Lanesfield Methodist Church on Tuesday mornings - run by Jan Brookfield, who also attends the Penn Ukulele Meetings at Penn Bowling Club, Manor Road, Penn, Wolverhampton) the entertainment on the canal cruise which was from the Bonded Warehouse Stourbridge to Stourton was provided by the Pete Boddice Trio with guests. It has given me an idea that the Stourbridge GFs Branch should do the same but provide our own entertainment. Let me know at our next meeting on 20th September. Despite being low in numbers at the August meeting it was a good night of entertainment. Ian Miller (who attends the Penn Ukulele Club) made his debut with "Grandad's Flannelette Nightshirt" and hope he performs at our next meeting. Also there were Steve Langford and Tilly (his daughter) from Daventry which is a long way, so pleased to see them along with Geoff Salminen, Blake May, Sam and John Griffiths, Matthew and Christine Richards, Roy Holloway (whose wife has recently had a stroke) - everyone at the GFS Branch wishes her a speedy recover and we are thinking about them both. Joe Thomas was also there and I believe he is playing some of Billy Uke Scott's numbers. I knew Billy and was in contact with him until he passed away in November 2004 which would have been George's centenary. There are several numbers which Billy wrote and played, which used to be featured at our meetings by Bob Elwell, who is not in the best of health at the moment, but look forward to seeing him back with us again, along with Bernard Francis and Dennis Evans and Steve, they are always in our thoughts. I wish to thank you all for attending and assisting with the backing and PA equipment for which thanks are for Christine, David and Matthew Richards and Geoff Salminen on the washboard, also Chris at the Ashwood for his hospitality. Se you all at the next meeeting. Finally does anyone like vintage Jazz - The Chris Carmell Jazz Band are worth listening to or seeing , and country music Dave Luke, Chuck Micallef and the Pete Boddice Band and Marilyn.
